Editing. The material I wrote for Post 2 proved extremely problematic,
because it was a long clarification, an addition, an exploration of the term
"event," which I had originally thrown into the entry in my journal,
which my advisor pointed out to me and suggested that I explain. But as I'm
attempting that work right now, but as I read to discover what I mean by that
word, I need to make new entries on parallel but unrelated discoveries. Trying
to represent thought as linear or chronological is the most natural attempt for
me, ( I imagine because I'm a product of the west - I don't know if it would be
as evident for other cultures), but it's deceptively elusive. I can't fault
Jacques, Butor's narrator for his doubling and tripling of his narrative stream
- it is the most logical solution to this problem. But t will drive you mad.
I've got the idea that I'm going nowhere. It's not difficult for me to
understand why Jacques lost touch with "reality" toward the end of
his stay in Bleston; I can't imagine I would be able to pursue this project for
any length of time if I also pursued this path. I can already feel my mind
unraveling...
